Patsy Dickerson, 2026 HFI President

Here are some of my goals for HFI in 2026:

1) Involve more of the membership of HFI in the planning and execution of our events.  Hopefully, we will increase our notification of committee meetings and upcoming events to keep everyone informed of happenings. (Please add the following emails to your contact list to receive updates: historicfincastleinc@gmail.com and psdicke@yahoo.com)

2) We’re working to preserve some of the resources in the Dottie Kessler Collection on our website, which means scanning and uploading articles about Fincastle’s fascinating history. If you’re interested in this kind of historical preservation, let us know. We have the materials to save, but not all the equipment needed to get it done. While it’s affordable, it will require regular time and effort. If you haven’t yet visited the site (www.hisfin.org), I encourage you to check it out—there’s already a lot of interesting information archived.

3) We will continue our programs and events, including the Historic Fincastle Fall Festival, the Free Ice Cream Summer Social, the Haunted History Tour of Fincastle (in collaboration with the Botetourt County Historical Society and Museum), the Holiday Home Tour and Marketplace, and the Tinsel Trail. Additionally, in 2026, in collaboration with the Town of Fincastle, we plan to install signs in the Historic Districts of Fincastle to help share the area’s history and provide information about some of the homes and buildings. In July, we will be introducing a new event that will occur several times this year – History in our own Backyard. More information will follow.

4) I hope that we can continue to work with the other historical groups and the Town of Fincastle while keeping the historical importance of the town in the forefront.

5) Establish a working budget to help with the planning of events.

6) Remember the celebration of VA250 is here, and we need to continue to remember and celebrate Fincastle and Botetourt County’s importance in this pivotal time in our nation’s history.
