| Annual
Action Plan
January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010
Historic Fincastle, Inc.
For
the year 2010, proposed HFI events and activities will address and
fulfill at least one objective in each of the organization’s
three goals: I. Preservation; II. Community Education and Outreach;
and III. Organization. In some cases, activities will address more
than one goal at a time and /or will include a fundraising component.
The
Annual Action Plan is a guide for annual operations of HFI. It must
be flexible to accommodate unanticipated changes in financial and
volunteer resources that could occur due to the continued economic
situation facing our country.
I.
Preservation:
• Establish a committee on Archives and Museums that would
research and visit other small communities with museums. Evaluate
and recommend a plan for effectively preserving and exhibiting Fincastle
history via artifacts, photographs, literature, and oral histories,
etc. relative to the possibility of applying for and receiving state
funding.
• Continue in the attempt to facilitate purchase and restoration
of deteriorating historic properties.
• Continue to maintain and improve the Early Cabin building,
as the need dictates and funds allow, with the priority being roof
replacement.
II. Community Education and Outreach:
• Continue to serve as a resource and referral agency to potential
and existing historic property owners and businesses.
• Continue to enhance and increase tours of Fincastle for
the public-at-large. Work with the Botetourt County Historical Society
in developing and implementing elementary school tours that meet
the Commonwealth of Virginia’s SOL requirements.
• Offer two countywide combined educational and fundraising
events, both of which have county and regional public appeal –
Gather to Gavel and Fincastle Holiday Home Tour and Marketplace.
• Award two $500.00 scholarships (one each at James River
High School and Lord Botetourt High School) to seniors planning
to major in History in college.
• Consider a proposal of a third fundraising activity –
HFI Yard Sale.
III. Organization:
• Continue to evaluate, maintain, and alter fiscal policies
and management procedures that reduce waste, yet maintain an effective
level of participation and productivity, i.e. obtaining two or three
estimates for printing the HFI newsletter.
• Continue to build membership via planned recruitment activities
and hosting two fundraising events and one fundraising activity.
Two of these are named above – Gather to Gavel and Fincastle
Holiday Home Tour and Marketplace. The third fundraising activity
proposed is an HFI Yard Sale to be held in May or June.
• Continue to maintain individual membership and corporate
giving levels at the 2009 levels.
• Evaluate grant opportunities that would aid in the preserving
and exhibiting Fincastle history. |
